This 16x20 inch painting was inspired by a photograph. I began this painting by blending together white, yellow, blue, and purple oil paint for the sky. To bring out the vibrancy of the sun, I left the area blank and filled it in with yellow, gradually fading to white to avoid muddiness. For the sand and water, I simply did a wash of yellow to accent the color produced from the reflecting sun. I used a small detailed brush for the waves and foam forming onto the shore and rocks.
 
To create an interesting perspective, I painted the ocean diagonally and created depth by including less detail in the distance and decreasing the size of the waves. I've also faded out the water gradually, as it disappears into the distant sun.
